The best area to stay in Jorhat

By the NOI Homes team, Jorhat · Published · Last checked

Quick answer

Stay in central Jorhat: J.B. Road, Gar-Ali and the main market area.

  • You're a short drive from the airport, about 6 km out, and Jorhat Town railway station.
  • Nimati Ghat, the Majuli ferry point, is roughly 14 km away.
  • Food, ATMs, pharmacies and shops are on your doorstep.
  • Stay out of town only if a tea-estate bungalow experience is the point of your trip.

Jorhat isn't a large city. Even so, the difference between a central stay and one on the outskirts is noticeable when you're catching a 7 am ferry or coming back late from Kaziranga.

City centre (J.B. Road, Gar-Ali, market area)

Best for first-time visitors, families, business travellers and anyone using Jorhat as a base.

  • Walk to local eateries, shops and evening markets.
  • Cabs and autos are easy to find.
  • One straight drive to the airport, the station and the road to Nimati Ghat.

Near the railway station

Convenient if you arrive on the Jan Shatabdi from Guwahati and leave the next morning. Jorhat Town station is in the city, so central stays are close to it anyway. See our station guide.

Near the airport (Rowriah)

The airport is only about 6 km from the centre. There's little advantage to staying beside it unless you have a very early flight. You'll give up being close to restaurants and markets.

Tea-garden bungalows outside town

Charming, quiet and green, but often 30 minutes or more each way. Day trips to Majuli or Sivasagar then mean extra driving, and evening options are limited to what the bungalow serves.

Quick decision guide

  • One night, transit: centre or near the station
  • Two to four nights with day trips: city centre
  • Slow tea holiday: an estate bungalow, plus one central night for errands
  • Long stay or work: a central apartment with a kitchen and Wi-Fi
